Swinging, swinging, swinging to and fro

Nathan and I went on another field trip this evening!  We headed to the park around the corner from our house.  I thought it was just about time for Nathan to try swinging!  I LOVE the swings and thought I would introduce them to my son! He LOVED them!  He swang by himself in the infant swing and then we got on the big girl swing and swang together!  It was tremendous fun!

Mom, this one is for you!  I think there is a picture of me as a baby doing the exact same thing!  :)   I laughed when he did this!

Here we are on the swing together!

Before we headed home we sat in the grass!  Nathan felt the grass and pulled the grass and wiggled his toes in the grass!  It was super cute to watch him!

I think we will go back to the park again very soon!  I was sad that I had to leave Rusty at home.  I didn’t think I could manage a baby, a stroller, swings, a large, unpredictable dog and squirrels all at the same time!  Rusty loves squirrels!  When he sees one, it is highly likely that he will give chase!!!!

Shout out!

I have to give a shout out to two people or groups of people!

First, to Aunt Jenny!  She had minor surgery yesterday and is recovering at home! My boys and I wish you a speedy recovery.  May you be playing tennis very soon!  See you at 11:30 for lunch!  We love you!  Here she is with her sweet!

My next shout out goes to my wonderful mother and Aunt Laura who are enduring some very difficult things in life right now.  My mother flew out to California yesterday to be with my aunt as she helps my uncle recover from a very bad health diagnosis.  I love you guys!  Know that we are praying for you and Gene as you go through this very difficult time.  (Aunt Laura, I do not have a picture of you!  I am sorry!)

Please say a special prayer for Aunt Jenny and my mom, Aunt Laura and Uncle Gene!

Best Seat in the House

Rusty has discovered a new favorite spot!!!

He LOVES food, even fruits and veggies!  If one of his humans is eating it, he wants it!  He has even taken a liking to the fruit puffs that Nathan is learning to feed to himself!  Too fun to watch!  I LOVE being a mom! So many blessings!  My heart is so full!

Life

I read something a while ago in Canton and was reminded of it again today!  It stikes me every time I read it!

“Life is not about weathering the storms that come.  It is about

learning how to dance in the rain.”

I love that!  It is, to me, a lesson in being optimistic and finding the good in what can easily be seen as a bad situation.

Day 3

Friday we road a ferry in the morning (from one side of Galveston Bay to the other and then back)!  We got to see porpoises (dolphin-like animals but with a rounder nose), pelicans and numerous sea vessels!  It was a unique and very fun adventure.

We headed to the beach when we returned from the ferry ride! We had a pleasant suprise ~ Aunt Tamber, Bethany and Aunt Shandi and Colten came down from Houston to visit and play at the beach with us.  We had a great time!  I forgot how sticky salt water makes you and how sand gets EVERYWHERE!!!!  We had a great time!  Nathan was interested in the brown stuff he was sitting in and, as a normal child, put it in his mouth!  It looked like he had a sand goatee!  We even ventured out in to the water!  If it weren’t for Tamber, we would have just stayed at the shore, sitting and splashing in the tide!  Thanks, Tamber, for helping me be a little braver!

Yum, sand!

After the beach, we said good bye to Aunt Tamber, took a brief (very, very brief) nap and then headed to Kemah Boardwalk!  I had never been there before and wasn’t quite sure what to expect.  It was an amusement park/shopping/eating wonderland!  We had a wonderful time despite the heat and humidity!  There wasn’t much that we could ride since my sweet boy is just barely 2 feet long, but we had a blast!  We rode the little train (I know I swore I hated trains, but it was the only ride that we could ride that was appropriate) that went around the entire boardwalk . . . it was so exciting that Nathan went to sleep!

Isn’t he precious?  I am so in love!

After the train, sleeping Nathan and the rest of our group headed over to Landry’s to have the most incredible seafood!  I had a platter with all kinds of (fried) seafood!  I feasted on fried catfish, shrimp, oysters (tried one and decided that I didn’t care for them), crab stuffed fried shrimp, fried crab claws, and a fried stuffed crab!  Oh my goodness!  I LOVED it!  Nathan ate saltine crackers and squash!  :)

After dinner, my friend and I tried to find some shops that were open and didn’t have much luck!  I was really surprised that the stores closed as early as they did!

The Singles Minister was more than happy to watch Nathan while his wife and I acted like kids!  We decided to ride the wooden roller coaster ~ not sure the name of it!  It had been years since I had ridden a roller coaster and even longer since I had ridden a wooden roller coaster!  I LOVED it!  I have to admit that I am a little sore today, though!

To end the evening, we enjoyed the Friday night fireworks!  I wasn’t quite sure how Nathan would react!  He would either sleep through them, cry and be scared or enjoy them!  He was captivated!  He looked at them and listened as I oohed and ahhhed!  He did not cry one time, even after the really loud booms!  Disney World, here we come!  :)

We had a FANTASTIC time in Galveston!  We met so many wonderful people and also enjoyed each other’s company!  Nathan has proven to be a wonderful and fun traveling companion!  I look forward to many more adventures with my sweet blessing!  He is soooo much fun!!!  I found myself smiling constantly and laughing more than normal!  Galveston might also be a yearly occurance ~ however, next year we might ask Uncle Steven, Aunt Tamber and family to come along!  :)

Happy 39th Anniversary!

(This is the only picture that I have on my computer!)

Love you guys!

Day 2

Well, Schlitterbahn was not as daunting as I had expected!  I pictured in my brain the Schlitterbahn in New  Braunfels ~ which is massive and extends into the Guadalupe River (I think).  The Galveston branch is much more managable and had lots of places for us to play!  Nathan loves the water and is content to sit/stand and splash!  Don’t worry, Mom, Nathan had plenty of sunscreen on!  I even put it on his little bald head!  (Love you papa!)

There is a funny story behind this picture!  I will be sure to tell it later!

Nathan was not happy that I put him back in his stroller!  Is it bad that I think he looks precious?

After Schlitterbahn, we headed back to the hotel where I fed and quickly put Nathan down for a LONG nap!  He crashed!  I was even able to snooze for a minute or 20!!!  After that we headed to dinner!   We experienced Rain Forest Cafe for the first time.  It was fun!  I had heard so many not so good things about the restaurant that I really wasn’t looking forward to it!  It was good!  There was so much for Nathan to look at!  To finish things off, someone ordered the “Volcano” dessert!  It is a mound of vanilla ice cream, with a fudge brownie tower surrounding it, topped with whipped cream, chocolate and caramel sauce and ~ hee, hee ~ a SPARKLER!  Even at 31, I still have to write my name in the air whenever I get a sparkler!

In front of one of the many fish tanks at Rainforest Cafe!

A small group of us headed to downtown Galveston to do a little shopping after dinner!  Most of the stores were closed or closing when we got there so we didn’t spend much time!  It was a good thing because Nathan was just about finished for the day!

Here he is recharging for another big day tomorrow!  Tomorrow we ride the ferry in the morning, play on the beach and then head to Kemah Boardwalk for the afternoon and evening!  Nathan will experience fireworks for the first time ~ most likely he will sleep through them because they will be so late! Also, Aunt Tamber and Bethany are driving down tomorrow to spend the morning with us!  We can hardly wait!

We have arrived!

It is late and I am getting ready to go to sleep but I wanted to post a few pictures of what we are doing!

GALVESTON!

Van trip down!             Playing on the bed in the hotel room!

Giving a precious green bean smile to the Minister to Singles and his wife ~ who are wonderful!

Eating at Joe’s!

Duck Tours ~ more on this later!  Nathan completely sacked out!  He slept through most of the tour!

Tomorrow is going to be interesting!  The group is headed to Schlitterbahn and Nathan and I are going to give it a shot!  Ha, ha!  You will have some interesting stories in the days to come I am sure!

Good night!

To the Zoo and back!

We took this morning and headed to one of my favorite places . . . the zoo!  The Tyler Zoo is not huge, but it has some great aspects!  I only wish it had some monkeys and a hippo or two.  Oh well!  Anyway!  Here are a few pictures of our morning at the zoo!

He makes my heart melt!

Looking at the bobcats!

Notice the bird on my shoulder and the bird on the stick!  What this picture doesn’t show is the larger bird that landed on Nathan’s HEAD just minutes before.  He wasn’t very happy about being the landing pad for a bird ~ his big bottom lip came out in protest!

Whassuuup!!!!

After the zoo, we met Aunt Jenny for lunch at Chickfila!  Look at my big boy!

We had a super fun day, except weathering a major thunderstorm that took our electricity for about an hour an a half.  Tomorrow we will post from a different location.  We will be traveling and are super excited about it!

Mangos and Green Beans and Squash, Oh My!!

I took the urgings of a friend to heart and have been making Nathan’s baby food – both for nutritional value and for the savings!  I usually make one food at a time, introduce it and then decide what I want to make next.  Well, since Nathan was with his dad all day Sunday, I decided to make the most of my time and, after attending church, I went on a marathon of food preparation!  I made green beans, butternut squash, apricots, mangos, sweet potatoes, apples and pears ~ oh and kiwi, but these don’t freeze so I only made enough for the next few days!

For those of you who are wondering whether making baby food is worth it . . . I think it is!  It doesn’t take much . . . boiling water, diced up food and a food processor ~ oh, and a few ice trays!  Yesterday, I had most of my baby food made and in the freezer in about 2 hours – and I made enough food for the next month or so!  The nutritional value of homemade baby food AND the taste far outweigh the store bought brands – in my opinion at least!  When we travel, I use store bought and it doesn’t taste like the stuff I make at home!  :)   I will do a price comparison per ounce one of these days, but I know, just by looking at what I spend, say, on fresh green beans at the store versus what store bought babyfood green beans cost that I am saving money.

If you are considering it, my advice is to give it a try! I would never have tried it were it not for the urgings of mab.  Thanks girl!  Had I not tried it, then I wouldn’t know how much I love it.  I like that I can choose the food I want Nathan to try, at what consistency and mixed with whatever else I want!  I am not limited to what the store has to offer!  Another benefit is that it has really made me aware of what I put in to my own mouth.  I have also learned how to cook and prepare things that I didn’t know how to before this – butternut squash for example!  I also keep more fresh fruits and veggies on hand!

Take the plunge and happy cooking!

My resource is “Blender Baby Food ” by Nicole Young!  Mostly common sense but still worth the purchase because I have referenced it many times!
